LEPROSY REHABILITATION
PROGRAMME :
The whole gamut of
Leprosy Rehabilitation Activities can be sub divided into 3 Programmes
viz...
·
Physical Rehabilitation :
·
Economic Rehabilitation :
·
Social Rehabilitation :
Dr.Cap’s Memorial Society, Srikakulam supported by VZW Dr.J.A.CAP Project Belgium engrosses itself on Leprosy Rehabilitation Programme and the major focus is bestowed on “CARE AFTER CURE “ activities viz.,getting deformed cases operated to restore functional ability (262 cases were operated fromm2000 to 2008 with the support of erstwhile ECOMWEL while another 41 cases with the support of Dr.Cap’s Memorial Society )and providing Micro Cellular Rubber Shoes to prevent damage to anaesthetic foot under their Physical Rehabilitation Programme. During 2014-2015 the activity of
distribution of MCR shoes was intensified and the unit is going nearer to the
patients to provide Protective Foot Wear to the poor and needy by organizing
camps in a specified area centrally located in remote and corner villages.
Recently a camp was conducted at Sriram Nagar and could provide MCR shoes,
Sustenance Allowances and Towels to the 31 needy leprosy patients. The
organization is programming to conduct similar camps for the Leprosy patients
who need IOL operations, refractions with the cooperation of our Retina Care
Centre.
Dr.Cap’s Memorial Society’s top most priority is Physical
Rehabilitation, so that the patients regain the functional ability of limbs
through reconstructive surgery. Physical Rehabilitation consists of deformity
correction, ulcer treatment, providing ulcer kits for self care by dressings at
home and supplying MCR shoes to prevent recurrence of ulcer besides
Physiotherapy. Since the Government has undertaken the correction deformities,
Dr.Cap’s Memorial Society which hither to performing this activity with the
participation of NLEP staff changed their priority and confined to the “Care
and Cure of Ulcers with POP’s” by admitting them in the Leprosy Ward.As part of
Social Rehabilitation Programme, the children of the Leprosy affected people
are supported by providing education.

MEDICARE PROGRAMME:
We strongly believe that healthy
individuals can only make h(w)ealthy community and the accelerated development
lies in the health of every individual. To attain this noble objective, several
initiatives have been taken up to promote the general health of every deserving
needy and poor citizen through medical and surgical interventions.A few of the
programmes worth mentioning include Free Medical
Camps in the poverty ridden rural areas, arranging Cleft Lip Surgeries, Eye Care, Distribution of Artificial
Limbs and Tricycles, Organizing Dental Camps for children and Adults
etc. There has been a Crystal Clear Foresight in designing and executing the
above mentioned Medical and Surgical initiatives.
During the year 2014-2015 two more new
activities have been introduced in Medicare Programme. In response to the call
of “Swatch Bharat” , a National
programme for promoting rural hygiene across the country, the district
collector made an appeal to all NGO’s in Srikakulam to support this noble
cause. Dr.Cap’s Memorial Society on its part has played a role by providing 10
Garbage Carrying Rikshaws to minor Panchayats, whose budget is quite inadequate
to run the programme to collect and carry the garbage from villages to keep the
villages clean and green. The second activity that the organization has taken up
during the year is “A Pilot Project on Cancer Identification”
